Product description

Premium-quality, peat-free compost ideal for cacti and succulents which prefer drier conditions, including Aloe, Sansevieria (snake plant), Opuntia microdasys (bunny ears cactus).

Developed for use with indoor plants, SylvaGrow® Desert Plant Compost is a coarse, open and free-draining peat-free potting medium, ideal for cacti and succulents which prefer a drier mix.

SylvaGrow® Desert Plant Compost is a unique blend of fine bark (a by-product of sustainably managed forests), sterilised loam and grit. It contains balanced nutrients sufficient for the first 4 - 6 weeks of growth.

Available in 5 Litre resealable packs

Cacti and succulents typically need repotting when they have been in the pot for two to four years, are pot bound, or the compost has broken down and is holding too much moisture.

The best time to repot them is in the spring or early summer.

Potting on

First ensure that the plant to be potted has been well-watered
Partially fill the pot with SylvaGrow Desert Plant Compost
Place the plant in the pot and fill with compost, gently tapping the pot to consolidate the compost. Take care that the growing medium is at about the same level on the plant as previously potted
Gently firm the SylvaGrow Desert Plant Compost around the plant without compacting it and water thoroughly
For a perfect finishing touch, top the surface with 1 - 1.5 cm layer of Melcourt Horticultural Potting or Coarse Grit
After-care

Most cacti and succulents prefer a position in full sunlight and can even spend the summer months outside. For best results check the conditions your particular plant prefers
Water thoroughly when the compost is dry, allowing excess water to drain away but ensure that the compost dries out completely between waterings. During the spring and summer cacti and succulents may need watering every 2 - 4 weeks. In the later autumn and winter, watering can be reduced significantly
After 4 - 6 weeks, regularly applying a proprietary liquid feed during the spring and summer months, following the manufacturer's instructions
